Naturism

What is Naturism

The term "naturism" means different things to different people. To some, it suggests a carefully considered way of life; a philosophy, no less. To others, naturism is nothing more complicated than a day at the nude beach.

At The Naturist Society, we have members who are deeply committed to naturism, and view it as a defining idea of their lives. And we have members who don't give the philosophical side of naturism much thought. They just know that not wearing clothes often feels better and makes more sense than wearing them.

Chances are, you fall somewhere in between. But it doesn't really matter where you are on the naturist spectrum. If you consider yourself a naturist, TNS membership is for you.

Membership in The Naturist Society offers an opportunity to learn more about the fascinating world of naturism, its history and philosophy, the challenges and opportunities.

For the committed naturist, there is all that and more. No matter how deep your commitment to naturism, as a TNS member you'll gain new insights into the naturist lifestyle.

Meet the (Nude) Family

Over at i-naked.info there is an article about Nude Families.

Well more accurately it shares a guide on how to practice naturism in your family. Not only does the article talk about raising children with a better appreciation of naked time, but it also shares the benefits of cost-savings through cheaper electrictity bills in the summer (of course, this suggests that winter may not be the best time to be naked).

Naturist Etiquette

Generally, the same common-sense guidelines for behavior and conduct apply in the naturist world as in the clothed world. Be polite and respect the rights of others. When visiting a landed club as part of a group outing, make sure you understand and follow the rules specific to that club. Here are few standard rules that all Naturists should try to adhere to.

Staring is impolite. It is okay to look, but always rude to stare.

Always use a towel. This is mainly for sanitary reasons - both yours and others. Try to bring two towels to events that you attend: one for sitting on and one for drying off if you spend anytime in the pool. Remember, just because you see others doing it, doesn't mean you should.

Respect the environment. Stay out of environmentally sensitive areas and take with you anything you brought in while enjoying nature. Naturists believe in leaving natural areas cleaner than they were when we arrived.

When visiting clubs and resorts always use trash cans and do your part in keeping the grounds clean for everyone's enjoyment. Always use appropriate receptacles for your cigarettes where smoking is permitted.

Defining Nudism

One of the questions I will often get asked is "what is nudism (naturism)?" I try to avoid the most obvious answer, which is "being naked" as it is far more than that. Nudism provides an opportunity to live naked - both in a private and public setting. Privately within my own home, and publicly at resorts, or runs (5Ks for example) and other social settings. I like to think of nudism (or being a nudist) as just another part of who I am, but I did get to thinking about what others have written in defining nudism.
